PRIMETIME SPORTS

Tre' Covington

Tre’ Covington, also known as Filthy Franko in the sports world, is one of the hosts of the Primetime Sports Podcast.

The 20 year-old, Charlotte, North Carolina native is a Journalism and Mass Communications major with a concentration in Mass Media Production  at North Carolina A&T State University.

He notes that when Professor Hooker (The Hip Hop Wizard) inquired about communications majors interested in creating their own podcast, he jumped on the opportunity. His interest in sports casting led him to establishing the Primetime Sports Podcast.

“HBCU sports are not reported on enough. Coverage of HBCU sports on national TV is virtually non-existent, and only the biggest social issues are talked about on national TV,” says Franko.

Armed with a plethora of athlete stats and a passion for competitive sports, he’s dubbed himself, “the tragic sports fan,” saying he seems to always be rooting for the underdog team.

“Last year, outside of the Carolina Hurricanes - which is my hockey team - the Nationals won the World Series over the Houston Astros, and that was the first time a professional sports team that I cheered for won the championship. I don’t have much success in the pro sports world,” he says.

Athletics has always been part of his life as he played basketball growing up, but he had to stop after sustaining a serious leg injury. When it comes to sports, Franko doesn’t miss a game, but says college basketball holds a special spot in his heart.

“I’m an Aggie in real life; but under this Blue and Gold, I’ve bled Carolina Blue since I was a child.”

Elijah McClure

Elijah Mcclure, also known as “President Eli” or “The Pres,” is a co-host of Primetime Sports, an online show at the Diggin In The Crates Hip Hop Shows and Podcasts.

Mcclure is a senior at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where he is studying Journalism and Mass Communications with a concentration in Mass Media. A native of Charlotte NC, he grew up playing sports and played the position of wide receiver for his high school football team.

“I hope to be living out my dream job being a sports analyst, a local newscaster, or a TV personality,” says Mcclure.

Although he has three basketball teams that he roots for, he stands by football as being his favorite sport.  An avid sports fan and always down to debate the latest game, when his friend and co-host, Tre Covington invited him to be a part of the podcast, Mcclure says it wasn’t hard to say yes.

“I need to have this experience under my belt. I came to learn the ropes, meet influential people, and have a good friend by my side as a co-host,” says Mcclure, who added,

“I love sports and I’m genuine. The best part is we’re doing this as a collective.”
